Saving Money on Insurance It never ceases to amaze me how many people spend far too much money on insurance. I appreciate that there is some time and effort to be expended in order to find the best policies at the right price, but I have friends who have saved many hundreds of pounds in the past simply by following a few simple rules and although the extra time that they have taken has often added up to an hour or so, there is no doubt that it was time well spent! It is a grave error however to just look around for the cheapest possible policy for whatever it is that you wish to insure. You need to be certain that not only does the policy cover the risks that you expect to face, but you also need to consider that other less likely mishaps can occur as well. Whilst it would be very nice to cover every possible occurrence, we have to be realistic and accept that the cost of a premium may well rise to an unacceptable level in order to accommodate this, and sometimes it is far better to take an honest attitude towards one's own risks otherwise premiums could spiral out of control. After all, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that a rogue satellite could crash from the skies onto your car and write it off, but the chances of this happening are about as great as winning the national lottery three times in succession so there is little point in obtaining cover for such a remote possibility. Another essential is to look carefully at just how much cover you have for each risk. Insuring your car for more than it is worth, for instance, is a complete waste of money because the market value is, except under very exceptional circumstances, the maximum that an insurer would pay out on. Conversely, it would be very risky to under estimate the rebuilding cost of your house, since it is certainly not unknown for houses to need complete rebuilding following a fire, and to be under insured in such circumstances could be disastrous. Bearing these points in mind, here are a few suggestions which may help you to save a very considerable amount of money! |
